Recently, Gina and Laura celebrated a victory at the Illinois Supreme Court with respect to an attorney fee issue that affects family law attorneys in the State of Illinois. Prior to the Illinois Supreme Court decision issued on Gina and Laura's case, In re the Marriage of Goesel, it was very unclear when and how family law attorneys could be required to tender funds to pay the other party's attorney, in a process called disgorgement. The Supreme Court finally addressed this long awaited issue by holding that family law attorneys cannot be required to turn over funds that they have previously earned and have been previously paid to pay the other party's attorney. As a result, Gina and Laura's case has garnered some attention in the past few days.
